Grey Geometric Nails

These were the second nails of my easter holidays. they were less easter themed and more modern and geometric. I really liked the colour and the contrast of my nails. The nails on both hands were not symmetrical and only 2 of the nails on each hand had a pattern and the rest were just a plain colours. The contrast made them more fun to paint and gives interest when you first see them. I used simple polished i had already and only used other equipment i already had.
These nails took quite a long time, the plain ones did not take long but the patturned ones took about 20 mins each.
To begin with i put a clear base coat on all of my nails to ensure they did not stain. For my plain grey and blue nails i painted 2 layers of each colour and then added a matte top coat.

For my complex nails; each is different as they are either different patterns or opposite gradients. For all of them i first put a thick layer of white, i then added a top coat onto these. you need to let this coat dry completely as we are adding nail tape next. When the top coat was dry i put striping tape in the pattern wanted on the nails. This was very fiddly as you needed to place perfectly, press down and cut; all at the same time with only one hand and maybe a few finger from the hand you are working on. I put the tape on all of the nails at once instead of completing one and then doing the rest in turn. After the tape was on i pressed it into the edges of my nails and ensured it was secure, then i added a layer of liquid latex around my nail on the skin as i am using gradients next. I added 2 layers of the latex and it is so satisfying to peel of in one pull. Next i took my makeup sponge and added a stripe of grey and another of blue. Then taking the sponge and checking which colour needed to be at the top of my nail i dabbed the colour onto the nail, i then another stipe of the colour onto the sponge and dabbed more on in order to have an opaque colour. Working quickly; i then took tweezers and pulled off the latex and tape stripes at once, then i painted the next nail. when all have been completed i added a thick matte top coat. The nails are finished!

I added several more topcoats over the next week to stop and chips and cracking. the polish does wear away at the tip of the nail so i topped up the tips in the middle of the week to keep them looking new and perfect.
